Checking attempt history

Checking attempt history

Kurzinformation

For H5P activities including quizzes or other gradable activities, several attempts can be saved and viewed subsequently via an Attempts Report. The Attempts Report can be viewed by managers (all attempts) and students (own attempts only). It can be accessed via the H5P activity or the gradebook.

The views only provide information on individual attempts by students. H5P does not currently provide statistics on the questions (difficulty level, etc.).

Note

For technical reasons, we do not recommend using quizzes in H5P for the awarding of bonus points or for exam admission. Please use the Moodle activity "Quiz" for this purpose. Use H5P quizzes only for formative purposes, i.e. for independent comprehension control.

1. Student's perspective

1.1. My attempts

To access their own attempts for an H5P activity, students open the activity and click on the "Attempt report" tab above the H5P content.

The "My attempts" page opens, listing all the attempts you have already completed in a table. Visible are:

  • # - Number of the attempt
  • Date - On what date the attempt was completed.
  • Score - The number of points achieved in one attempt.
  • Max score - The maximum score defined in the activity that can be achieved.
  • Duration - Time required for the attempt.
  • Completion - Information whether the attempt has been completed.
  • Success - Information about whether the attempt was passed.
  • Report - Additional page with further details

Depending on the grading method that the managers have set for the H5P activity under "Attempt options", the table may provide additional information. For example, for the "Highest grade" grading method, the attempt that will be counted in the gradebook will be shown separately as "Highest score attempt".

When using interactive videos with quizzes or other H5P content with quiz elements, attempts that have already started cannot be interrupted and resumed at the same point. In the event of an intentional or unintentional interruption of such an H5P activity, all quiz elements that have been completed up to that point must therefore be answered again.

1.2. View Report

If you click on "View report", each attempt will be displayed individually on a separate page. The information on the "My attemps" page is repeated here. Additionally, this data is displayed in tabular form. The columns may vary slightly depending on the question type:

  • Question asked
  • Answer options
  • Correct answer(s)
  • Gven answers
  • Achieved score and maximum score

2.2. Attempts of the students

The link "View user attempts" in the column "Attempts" opens a new page with an additional tabular overview of all attempts of the selected person. The table contains the same data as the students' overview "My attempts":
