Kurzinformation

RWTHmoodle allows the use of groups for different purposes. Groups can be created, contributions to activities can be filtered by groups, and access to activities and materials can be controlled by group membership.

 Detailinformation

1. Create Groups

Managers can divide their students into groups in the course room and let them work together. RWTHmoodle offers different options for group formation. The participant's list shows which groups the students belong to. RWTHmoodle also allows managers to combine several groups into one grouping and thus work with different groupsets.

2. Group Mode

RWTHmoodle has several group modes for activities. These allow managers to filter user contributions within the activity by group membership using a separate drop-down menu. For communication and collaboration activities such as forums, glossaries, or wikis, the group modes also control the extent to which the contributions of one group are visible to the other groups. The group mode can be activated as default for all activities of a course room or it can be used for selected activities only.

3. Control access to activities, materials, or course sections per group

In RWTHmoodle, access to activities, materials, or course sections can be controlled on the basis of group membership, among other things. This is done using the "Restrict access" setting option, which can be configured on the settings page of an activity, material, or course section. This allows managers to specify the group(s) for which the element should be available.

For more information, see the manual on Restrict Access.

4. Groupings

A Grouping is a composition of different groups within a course room. You can use groupings to assign work orders to one or more groups in a course room so that these groups can work together on these orders.

Examples of groupings:

  • Grouping A consists of Group A, Group B, and Group C
  • Grouping B consists of group A, group D, and group E

With groupings, you can create different group compositions that are needed for different purposes. In one context, the groups from grouping A work together, in the other context those from grouping B.
