Coupon for RWTH Employees

This page explains how to set up your RWTH Single Sign-On Account as an employee of RWTH Aachen University.
Employees are staff (e.g. lecturers, federal service volunteers, student assistants, etc.) who have an employment contract with the department of Human Resources 8.0.
Please note
Follow these steps to set up your account:
Redeem coupon
Your coupon will be sent by email by the Human Resources Department. If you did not get your coupon, please contact Human Resources.
Please note:
After receiving the email with your coupon, you need to wait one day before redeeming it. Moreover, if you received your coupon much earlier than your planned start date, please note that coupons cannot be redeemed more than six weeks before the start of your employment.
Step 1
Click the link in the email or open IdM ConnectMe and copy the coupon code under "Enter Coupon-Code".
Step 2
Click Next.

Step 3
- If you already have a username (format ab123456), click Login and follow the steps under Option 1.
- If you do not have a username, click Register and follow the steps under Option 2.
Please note:
If you are unsure whether you already have a username, please use the IdM PasswordReset or contact the IT-ServiceDesk.
You might already have a username if you have:
- studied or worked at RWTH Aachen University,
- worked at Uniklinik Aachen,
- took part in a language course, bridge course, or training

Option 1: Login with RWTH Single Sign-On Account
Step 1
Enter your username (format ab123456) and your password, then click Login. If you forgot your password, you can reset it.

Step 2
Since July 2, 2024, the use of multi-factor authentication (MFA) is mandatory for logging in via RWTH Single Sign-On.
If you...
- have not yet set up MFA, please follow our guide, then redeem your coupon again.
- have already set up MFA, select a token from the dropdown menu and enter your onetime code. Click Validate.
Please note:
If you have lost your tokens, you must identify yourself at the IT Service Desk. For more information, see the No access to any token page.


Step 3
Please make sure that you logged in with the correct username, then click Next.

Step 4
- If you do not have an RWTH email address, go to Select RWTH email address.
- If you already have one (format firstname.lastname@rwth-aachen.de), go to Login credentials and Accounts.
Option 2: New Account
Step 1
Read the Network Code of Conduct and check the box next to "I agree to the Network Code of Conduct".
Step 2
Enter an email address under "A verification code will be sent to this email address". This email address will be used as your contact email address, for example to reset your password. You can change it in the IdM Selfservice at any time.
Step 3
Click Next.

Step 4
You will receive a confirmation code via email. Enter this confirmation code and click Next.

Personal RWTH email address
Please note:
Your personal RWTH email address has the format firstname.lastname@rwth-aachen.de. Your official email address will be separately created and managed by your organization. Fore more information, see Email Addresses at RWTH Aachen University.
Step 1
If you have multiple first and/or last names, you can select which ones will be used in your RWTH email address.
Please note:
If your name contains special characters, they will be replaced with the corresponding Latin letters according to DIN EN 91379 to provide a compatible substitute spelling for your email address.
Step 2
If you would like to allow anyone with an RWTH email address to see your email address in the global address book, check the box next to "Include this RWTH email address in the global address book".
Step 3
Click Next.

Step 4
Review your selection and click Next.

Login credentials and accounts
Step 1
Be sure to note your username and password carefully, as they will only be shown once. Treat your access data confidentially and do not share it with a third party.
If you did not write down your login credentials, you can use the IdM PasswortReset.
Under "Your Accounts", you can see which accounts are being created. You can find more information in our Guide for New Employees.
Step 2
Click Finish.
Please note:
It may take up to 48 hours for your account to become fully active. During this time, you may not be able to log in to certain platforms, such as RWTHonline and RWTHmoodle.

You have now successfully created your RWTH Single-Sign On Account.
