Identity Management
Being the central user dashboard, the identity management (IdM) of the RWTH Aachen supports the entire life cycle of the most important IT-based services that people at the RWTH make use of. Amongst others the following aspects are covered:
- registraton of new users
- various changes of roles inside the RWTH Aachen (e.g. switching from student to employee)
- final resignation and the associated omission of rights in IT-based services
The IdM's main purpose is the management and provisioning of data for authentification and authorisation of users as required.
By connecting central source systems (Registrar's Office, HR Department) to the Identity Management, data is stored in one central location and can be syncronized to connected systems. Service continuity is ensured by corresponding role changes. If the relationship with RWTH Aachen University changes, the user's core access data is retained; only authorizations may change.
Registration in Identity Management to receive user name (ab123456) and password
All groups of people register in IdM using a ConnectMe coupon procedure. When registering, users receive their access data. Each user should only register once in the IdM and, when redeeming further coupons from different procedures, link them to their known user name. In order to redeem further coupons after the intial registration, multi-factor authentication (MFA) must have been set up for your user name.
You will receive your user name with the format "ab123456" when you register. The user name cannot be changed and will be used in all your accounts if possible. Keep the user name as secret as possible.
Your initial password will be communicated to you on the final page of the ConnectMe coupon procedure. This password is the password for your RWTH Single Sign-On account (Shibboleth). You can then set and change your password individually for each account in Identity Management in the self-service under "Accounts and passwords".
Forgotten password or user name
If you have forgotten your access data, you can use the "PasswordReset" function.
Viewing and changing data in self-service
After registering, users can view their data in Identity Management and change their personal data themselves in Selfservice. You will need your RWTH Single Sign-On account to use the self-service.
A video tutorial for the self-service is available.
