What are MSC Products?
This guide summarizes the most important information about MSC Software at RWTH, including available products, licensing, and support.
General Information
MSC Software develops CAE software for simulation and virtual product development. It is primarily used in the aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, and machine tool industries. The license package includes a wide range of software for linear and non-linear finite element analysis, multibody simulation, CAD-integrated simulation tools, data and process management, and numerous other applications.
RWTH has currently acquired the University Structures+Motion Bundle and MSC One Bundle-University license packages. These include, among others:
- Adams
- Marc
- MSC Nastran
- Patran
- Dytran
- MSC Apex

License Information
Usage Rights
The MSC licenses may be used exclusively for research and teaching at the institute.
It is important to note that when using the software, anonymized user data is transmitted to MSC. The licenses may not be used under the following circumstances:
- for bachelor's, master's, diploma, and/or other final theses
- for commercial purposes
- in cooperation with other companies
Use of MSC for Final Theses
If you wish to use the RWTH Aachen MSC license for a final thesis, a "Diploma Agreement" must be concluded with MSC Software. To conclude this agreement, MSC Software must be informed about the title of the thesis, the results, and any planned publications. In addition to the MSLA, the terms of the Diploma OS (Order Schedule) will then apply.
