Kurzinformation

NI licenses for LabVIEW, DIAdem etc. can be purchased inexpensively from RWTH Aachen University's "Software-Shop". These may be used for teaching and academic research.

NI licenses for students offer the opportunity to use LabView and other NI software at a reduced price. When purchasing the license for students in the software store, you will receive further information on the download and content.

What is LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is a graphical system design software for application development in measurement, testing and automation technology. The acronym stands for "Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench." Programming is carried out using a graphical programming language, called "G", based on the data flow model. This special feature makes LabVIEW particularly suitable for data acquisition and processing.

The programming environment uses the same libraries and data acquisition modules as LabWindows/CVI, the integrated development environment (IDE) from National Instruments, and is therefore compatible with LabWindows/CVI. Extensive function libraries and drivers are also available for many tasks.

This enables the following:

  • The collection of data and device control
  • Monitor and interact with your test
  • Communicate via industrial protocols
  • Developing with graphical programming
  • Gain insights from data
  • Adding code from other programming languages
  • Create high-speed measurement and control systems with FPGAs
  • Network access to your test system
  • Automate a test sequence

The LabVIEW Community Version is a full version of this graphical programming language and is made available to students through non-concurrent user-based licenses. The source code is included, but is of course subject to the terms of the contract.

Do computers on which the runtime is installed require a license?

In this case, the license is not required. With the current professional version, LabVIEW Professional 2023 Q3, which is provided by RWTH Aachen University, you can create as many .exe files as you like. These .exe files may not be sold.

You can find information about the release version on the NI website.
