On this page you will find up-to-date information and instructions regarding the upcoming deletion of accounts on RWTH-Tenant.


Detailinformation

Background

With the changeover to the new Microsoft federal contract 3.0 on 01 May 2021, the licensing conditions - also on the RWTH-Tenant - have changed. For this reason, the Microsoft accounts of the students on the RWTH-Tenant will expire on 07.08.2022 at 23:59 and the students will no longer have access to the RWTH-Tenant and the Microsoft products obtained via it from this time on.

Also affected by the deletion are the accounts for the Azure Dev Tools For Teaching Portal, as these are the same user accounts. Licenses obtained through the portal will lose their validity as a result.

The Microsoft accounts on the Students-Tenant (login via egal@students.rwth-aachen.de) and the private RWTH email address are not affected by the deletion and will not be deleted. The deletion of the accounts on the RWTH tenant also has no effect on the Microsoft products purchased privately with the RWTH e-mail address.

Students who have been invited or are working in another tenant as a guest with their Microsoft account from the RWTH tenant must be re-invited with the Microsoft account from the tenant for students.

Students who also have the status "employee RWTH" (e.g. HiWis) are currently not affected by the deactivation and should therefore not have received an email notification.

 

Checking whether products are used via the RWTH-Tenant

To check whether an account still exists on the RWTH-Tenant and whether the products are used via it, please log in at https://portal.office.com with your RWTH e-mail address. If an account exists, you will be logged in. Otherwise, an error message will appear.

 

Backup of data

In this context, we recommend that you back up all your data from the RWTH-Tenant locally. Appropriate backup instructions can be found on the official Microsoft support site and on IT Center Help. If you have already created an account in the Tenant for students, you will also have a OneDrive with 5TB storage there. You can find instructions for setting up the OneDrive in Windows on the Microsoft support pages.

With the programme "Mover" you have the possibility to migrate your data directly from your OneDrive on the RWTH tenant to your OneDrive on the tenant for students.

Use of the tenant for students

If you would like to continue using Microsoft products as part of your studies in the future, you can create a free Microsoft account on the Tenant for Students. Instructions for registration and login can be found here on IT Center Help.
