General information

Virtual Serverhosting

The IT Center offers the possibility of renting servers in the form of virtual machines (VMs). The offer provides an alternative to purchasing and operating customer-owned server hardware.

The IT Center takes over the setup and maintenance of the virtual machines and ensures the availability of these virtual hardware resources. The IT Center provides suitable user interfaces for controlling the VMs (power on/power off/reset) and for using the customer's own installation media. The use of these interfaces is possible within the IP networks of the RWTH from any location.

The operating system of the VMs is installed and operated by the tenant and can be freely selected in consultation with the IT Center. The tenant has full access to the operating system and is responsible for all software installed on the Virtual Machine (including the operating system).
