Set up the Cryptomator app

In this guide, you will learn how to install the Cryptomator app on Windows, Linux and macOS as well as Android and iOS.

In order to successfully install Cryptomator, verification from your local IT administration may be required.

To set up the Cryptomator app on the corresponding operating system, follow the respective instructions:

Windows

To set up the Cryptomator app on your Windows PC, proceed as follows:

Step 1
Download the installer for the Cryptomator app from theofficial website.

Step 2
Start the installer.

Schritt 3
Follow the installation instructions.

The Cryptomator app is now installed on your Windows PC.

Linux

To set up the Cryptomator app on your Linux system, proceed as follows:

Step 1
Download the installer for the Cryptomator app from theofficial website.

Step 2
Make the AppImage executable.

Step 3
Execute the AppImage in the respective package manager.

Step 4
Follow the installation instructions.

The Cryptomator app is now installed on your Linux system.

macOS

To set up the Cryptomator app on your macOS system, proceed as follows:

Step 1
Download the installer for the Cryptomator app from theofficial website.

Step 2
Start the installer.

Step 3
Accept the licence agreements.

Step 4
Drag Cryptomator into the application folder.

The Cryptomator app is now installed on your macOS system.

Android

To be able to use the Cryptomator app on your Android device, you need an appkey. To obtain an appkey, please contact the ServiceDesk of the IT Center.

Once you have received an appkey, proceed as follows to install the Cryptomator app on your Android:

Step 1
Download the Android APK from the official website.

Step 2
Install the APK on your device. Activate the developer mode of your device if necessary.

Step 3
Start the app and enter the app key.

The Cryptomator app is now installed on your Android device.

iOS

To set up the Cryptomator app on your iOS device, proceed as follows:

Step 1
Create a vault in the Cryptomator Hub.

Step 2
Download the Cryptomator app from the AppStore.

Step 3
Open the app on your device. When the subscription prompt appears, do not select a subscription model and click ‘Done’ in the top right-hand corner.

If you select the trial version, only read and write access to vaults within itc.cryptomator.cloud will remain after the trial period has expired.

Step 4
Tap the "+" sign on the home screen of the app and add the vault from step 1.

The Cryptomator app is now installed on your iOS device and ready to use.
