Microsoft Word (SharePoint)

 Detailinformation

To make changes to the file, commence as following:

Edit via the file menu

Click on the file menu to configure settings for the file.

The Edit option allows you to open a suitable program for editing. By default, the online Word application of the Office 365 environment opens and allows you to edit the file directly in the browser.

Screenshot of the SharePoint document view. A preview window is open for the example file, showing a document preview. At the bottom edge of the window is the "EDIT" button, followed by "SHARE".

Alternatively, you can edit the file using the local Microsoft Word version.

To do this, select Word (Desktop) from the list of suitable programs.

Screenshot of the "Launch Application" window. In the list of applications, the entry "Word (desktop)" is selected. At the bottom right of the window are the buttons "Cancel" and next to it "Open Link".

By clicking on open link our local Word Application (provided it is installed correctly) opens and we now have the opportunity to edit the document in a conventional manner.

Screenshot of an open Word document. In the top left of the menu bar, the "Save" icon (floppy disk) is selected. A displayed tooltip shows the text: "Save (Ctrl+S). Save this document and update it with the changes made by other authors."

Note that Word, instead of saving the file on the local harddrive, does now update and synchronise the file directly in SharePoint. This means, that even when multiple people work on the same document, conflicts in the file-contents are prevented due to the central localization of the file.

Edit via the Microsoft Web App

You can also open the file directly in Microsoft Word Web App.

Click on the file name in the file list. Please note that the file will open in a preview view and can only be edited by clicking on the Edit Document option.
