Important Notes on the Use of Telephone Terminals

Important Notes on the Use of Telephone Terminals

Detailinformation

Information on Standard Equipment per Office

At least one telephone terminal (desk phone) must be set up and connected per office room. This is a prerequisite, even if the user only uses softphone telephony.

Background: The IT Center offers a wide range of telecommunication options with its desk phones and soft clients. For security reasons, RWTH Aachen University has decided that each office must have a desk phone so that, for example, emergency services can be called via 110, 112 or 113 (college guard) if necessary.

The telephone terminals and corresponding configurations ensure constant operability, security and accessibility. If, for example, a work computer is down or is undergoing an update, each office can be reached by telephone in urgent cases. The IT Center recommends more than one telephone terminal per office so that the number of devices provides a certain degree of redundancy in the event that a device should fail at short notice.

Information on Unplugging Telephone Terminals and Office Switches

The newly installed Cisco telephones should remain on their respective workstations. These, as well as all other devices and cables should NEVER be unplugged by the end-user, even on days off or holidays. The devices could be damaged if they are manually plugged in or unplugged, and we will not be able to provide a cost-neutral replacement in that case.

Additionally, we must ask that devices are neither moved within their respective rooms, nor removed from them.

There is detailed documentation on the locations of the individual telephone terminals. The IT Center needs this in order to be able to react as quickly as possible in the event of support. This documentation is also available to the university police station (113), for example to provide the emergency services with information on the location from which an emergency call was made.

Feel free to contact the network team in case of any necessary changes to your devices, and contact the ServiceDesk in the case of disruptions or network faults.

Information on the Ownership Status of Telephone Terminals

The IT Center is responsible for managing the telephone terminals. By network renewal, a 1:1 replacement will be provided in line with the previous stock. The existing stock of obsolete terminals will be dismantled. The replacement procurement for the entire RWTH Aachen University is covered by a funding application and the approval of the state of NRW. The users will therefore not be financially burdened by the new equipment (1:1).

It is not possible to compensate for any end devices financed in the past or current shortfalls in telephone end devices.

Even if fewer telephone terminals are desired or required, costs are incurred for the use of device licenses.

In the event of additional requirements, the additional costs must be borne by the user. Payment is not made for the end device itself, but for its provision. This includes the end device incl. license and replacement in the event of a defective end device.

The loss of end devices must be financially compensated by the respective institution (replacement value).
