RWTH LaTeX Templates

information

This page provides a brief overview of the availability and use of the RWTH LaTeX templates:

Brief description of LaTeX

LaTeX is a typesetting program that differs from traditional word processors. Instead of seeing the final result directly (“What you see is what you get”), it uses text markup (“What you see is what you mean”). The layout is automatically calculated during compilation, resulting in stable documents.

RWTH LaTeX templates

The RWTH LaTeX templates are a service tool provided by Research Data Management (FDM) for members of RWTH Aachen University and enable the professional and consistent creation of scientific and official documents—such as letters, presentations, and posters—in the RWTH corporate design.

Editor and distribution

The RWTH LaTeX templates are part of the TeXLive and MikTeX distributions and are published via CTAN.

If you are working locally and have a current distribution (2026), you can use the templates directly. We have compiled a few best practices.

If you use the Overleaf/ShareLaTeX instance via Sciebo, you can select the three document types for which a template is currently available under “Templates.”

Note on RWTH logos

For licensing reasons, the RWTH logos are not automatically included. These must be manually inserted into the project as image files.

Official logos can be requested from the Marketing Office.
