The firewall is responsible for restricting services so that vulnerable and sensitive services are only available to the extent permitted by the security policy. In order to enforce this concept, the IT Center runs a high-performance firewall on the Internet uplink that regulates the availability of the most important globalservices in a binary manner (yes/no). Furthermore, the IT Center can install another firewall layer on request that runs on the individual routers of the respective institutions and protects their local networks from threats within the university network. Who is allowed to access the Firewall?

The RWTH’s main firewall is active at all times. For security reasons, only the IT Center has direct access to the firewall. However, if desired, changes can be requested and implemented in the firewall.

How can I request changes to the firewall?

Network contact persons can request firewall changes for networks in their organization using the firewall form.
Networks and existing firewall rules can be viewed via the Firewall View.
