Ionos
What is Ionos?
Ionos is a cloud computing platform operated by Ionos SE and is part of the Service Multi Cloud Solutions at the IT Center. Ionos enables the use of various Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) for RWTH.
These services can be scaled flexibly and allow for efficient resource utilization. The offering includes, among other things:
- Database systems such as MariaDB and MongoDB
- additional storage solutions such as Object Storage
- AI applications, including Stable Diffusion and Llama, as well as
- virtual infrastructure services such as virtual machines and networks, CDN
Ionos is currently in the pilot phase at RWTH. If your department is interested in participating in the pilot, please send an email with a brief use case description to the IT Service Desk.
Who can use Ionos?
Ionos is available for use by RWTH departments. To gain access to Ionos for your specific use case, please submit a request to the IT Service Desk along with the completed file: checklist for public cloud resources. The IT Center will then review your request and contact you if any further information is needed.
Once your request has been approved, we will schedule an onboarding session with you. During this session, you will receive an initial overview of the Ionos Datacenter Designer and will then be granted access to your Ionos account.
How does the billing work?
There are costs associated with using Ionos. Billing is based on the actual cloud resources used within the subcontract. The participating institution is responsible for managing its budget. Invoices are sent directly to the respective institution by our contractual partner, Bechtle.
To help you estimate costs, you’ll find a cost overview and price calculators on the Ionos website. There’s also a cost overview within your subcontract where you can view the costs that have already been incurred.
