MS Campus Teilhabe

The Campus Teilhabe is a variant for the allocation of financial resources for the federal contract with Microsoft. It is therefore a participation in the refinancing of the Microsoft licenses that RWTH Aachen University has procured for use in the service sector. The Campus Teilhabe itself is not a license. It entitles the holder to use the Microsoft licenses procured by RWTH Aachen University for business purposes in compliance with the contractual and licensing provisions of the federal contract. The current term is 5 years (01.05.2025 - 30.04.2030).
The new contract includes i.a. the rental of the following products with Software Assurance for the entire term:
- Windows 11 Education/Enterprise (This software is only available as an upgrade to an existing OS - see Base Operating System)
- Office 365 Education A3
- Enterprise CAL Suite
- SharePoint
- Exchange
- Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan1
Software Assurance enables you to use the latest version of these products at any time. The right to downgrade also makes it possible to use older versions. For more detailed information on downgrading Microsoft licenses, please refer to the Microsoft documentation.
These Microsoft products are intended exclusively for official use on official devices. In addition, the Federal Contract 4.0 includes the following products for official use on other devices:
- Microsoft 365 Education A3 (for employees only)
- Microsoft 365 Education A3 Student Use Benefit (for students only)
- Software from the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching Portal (use for teaching and continuing education).
As part of the Microsoft 365 Education A3 license, the Microsoft products Office 365 (as an on-premise installation) for official use and Microsoft Teams (until further notice) for official communication are available to employees of RWTH Aachen University. Office 365 can be installed locally on a total of 15 devices (5 PCs/laptops/ 5 tablets/ 5 smartphones). The web applications of the Office products are not available to employees.
Via the right to downgrade the Microsoft 365 Education A3 license, it is additionally possible to install one Office Pro Plus 2024 version (or an older version) per person for sole use on a business PC/laptop. This only applies to employees of RWTH Aachen University. In addition, Office Pro Plus 2024 (or an older version) may be installed and used on PCs/laptops in laboratories, libraries and freely accessible premises (e.g. lecture hall). If an employee has multiple personal work devices, they may not install Office Pro Plus 2024 (or an older version) one more than one of those devices. A local installation of Office 365 may be used on their other work devices as usual, but the use of Office Pro Plus 2024 (or an older version) under the right to downgrade is limited to one device.
