What is the RWTH Core Network?
The core network, or RWTH backbone, comprises all network infrastructure (building connection cables, switch/router technology, etc.) required to provide building connections and primary facility connections to the RWTH data network.
The RWTH backbone is continuously expanded and updated to reflect the latest technological advancements. This includes the commissioning of new components as well as the modernization of hardware and cable infrastructure. All active network components are monitored and maintained by the IT Center.
The RWTH Aachen backbone includes the central building distribution points as well as the Internet connection via the DFN Association.
Who can use the RWTH Core Network?
The core network is available to all individuals with active status and can also be made available to external partners or guests upon approval, if necessary.
How can the RWTH core network be used?
Access to the core network can be established locally via LAN or Wi-Fi. Guests can access the network via Wi-Fi, but must apply for access in advance. Additionally, access to the central network and the networks of the various departments is possible via VPN.
