This guide describes how to update the IBM Spectrum Protect client software.


Backing up the configuration file


Before you update the client software, back up your configuration file (dsm.opt) first.

Navigate to the directory C:\Programs\Tivoli\TSM\baclient and copy the dsm.opt to another location (for example C:\temp).


Uninstalling the old client software

Open the Control Panel via the search bar.


Here you can find the option do uninstall programs on your system.


Uninstall the following programs in the newly opened window:

  • IBM Spectrum Protect Client
  • IBM Spectrum Protect JVM

Finally, delete the following folder in the corresponding directory:

  • Tivoli in C:\Programs

Afterwards, download and install the new version of the client, analogous to the initial installation.

After installing the client software, it is necessary to install the root certificate T-TeleSec GlobalRoot Class 2 on your system!

Download the certificate here and open a console with elevated rights.

To do this, open the search bar of the start menu and type in cmd (1), right-click on the app and run it as administrator (2).


Then execute the following commands in the cmd.

Replace FILEPATH with the path where the downloaded certificate is located!

cd C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\
.\dsmcert.exe -add -server "T-TeleSec GlobalRoot Class 2" -file FILEPATH\rootcert.pem

Restoring the configuration file

After the installation has been successfully completed, you can move your previously saved configuration file (dsm.opt) to the new installation directory.

Move the dsm.opt to C:\Programs\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\.

After you have restored the configuration file, you can start the client software as usual.
