Communication between RWTH MS Teams servern


At the RWTH Aachen there are different Microsoft Teams instances (in so-called Tenants).

Students use; employees use Both tenants are separated from each other, i.e. you cannot invite users from the respective tenant directly into a team or channel via search.

This is still possible via a workaround, however, by using the internal team user for this purpose.


For communication between students and employees, the respective accounts must first be invited as guests to the other tenant (i.e. to or

How to invite an account to the other tenant is described in the following steps:

1. Inform the external partner/support person of your own account name. To find out your account name, you must log on to with your M365 or student access data

  - click on the pro icon in the upper right corner

2. this account name can then be invited by the external partner/support

        (The invitation process can take up to one minute)

3. in order for the team (or the other organization) to be displayed, the respective user must log in to teams again. After that he can change the organization (the tenant) in a drop-down menu in the upper right corner.
